Nike Basketball Freestyle Commercial Extended

Nike Basketball Freestyle Commercial

In 2001, director Paul Hunter was approached by Nike and their marketing agency to create a commercial that would blend the hip hop culture with basketball.  The commercial featured NBA players as well as streetballers and they would freestyle dribble with a recreated version of a classic hip-hop instrumental by Afrika Bambaataa & The Soul Sonic Force—"Planet Rock" playing in the background.

The commercial debuted during the All-Star break of 2001 and would forever go down as one of the greatest Nike commercials of all time. Many spoofs were played off this commercial like the ones in Scary Movie or Chappelle Show and there were even DVD's entirely devoted to the making of the commercial.
